Presidents Report 2003 2004
That's it, another year gone for the Hamilton Anglers Club. As I said in April's Newsletter this is the 40th year the club has been in progress, in that time fishing and tackle have done that also.

The year has had its ups and downs as with most clubs, the ups were as follows, we have had good numbers coming along to the meetings with a good turn out of visitors. We have had some excellent speakers mix in with some practical nights. Derek's Fly tying courses are well attended. Club trips are been well patronized with limit numbers enjoying themselves.

The Ladies Anglers are growing in strength, numbers and skill and having a ball when fishing and this is what angling is about.

The club won the best club display at the 2003 boat show at Mystery Creek. Thanks to those that helped it was a big week. The membership continues to grow slow with older members retiring and or moving on in life with new members joining. We have a new trophy for salt water fly fishing, as this aspect is growing in popularity.

The downs were the lodge was broken into four times with some bad damage and thefts. Other than that the lodge has had good attendance and been enjoyed by all. If I could live there I would, but Raewyn has other ideas.

Now come the Thank you. Barry Moran for going up to the lodge to clean up after the break-in when I could not and all the help with the lodge over the last two year. Nigel Cluitt and his family for the lawn mowing etc and my brother Geoff and family along with Greg and his family for the work they did with the concrete work at the lodge.

Derek Burtenshaw, without his work we may not have had a club as strong as it is now he continues to be a driving force in the club.

Ken Morse for the hours put in with to politics and environment issues and meetings he has sat through.

Stephen Martin, the editor for all work he does for the club and magazine and to the committee who helped me run the club it was not hard to do and finally to you the members with out you there is no club.

So I will see you at the AGM and prize giving, Monday 31st May . "Be there"
Be good to the fish Be good to each other.

Last month saw the completion of the last half day practical of the the 4x4 course. It was held  at the Agri-business site  at Ngaruawahia in some what drier conditions than the last time. However I still

managed to get my vehicle bogged, much to the disappointment of Lance our instructor. He was getting over a cold and wasn't

felling too energetic. He drove his vehicle down to pull me out and got stuck himself so had to go and get a tractor to pull both vehicles out. Everybody that went on the course passed and the certificates are in the mail.

The Boating Fishing and Outdoor Expo provided the club with 9 new members and some more that are interested in coming to our club nights to see how the club operates.

We managed to sell $150.00 worth of flies that also helped. A big thank you to the people that helped in managing the display and to R&R Sport for providing a mannequin that we were able to fit out in fishing gear. We were the only freshwater display in the show.
I read with interest an article in Saturdays Waikato Times (16th

September) that scientists from Niwa have developed a solution that in laboratory tests targets didymo (rock snot) and leaves everything else in one piece.

Initial trials are very encouraging of the copper-based compound and a two-month test will start in an artificial stream next month. The general consensus is that it is only a matter of time that it appears in the North Island so we need to be constantly vigilant about cleaning our gear when we move from one fishing area to another. Watch this space.
