Have you tried N.Z.’s 100% Trout Fishing magazine yet?

It is the time of the year when the dedicated angler heads for the mighty Tongariro and the fresh run silver rainbows, or packs the torch and sets of to Rotoiti for the evening in search of the elusive 10 lb’er. Thermals, balaclava, 7 mm thick neoprene waders and a runny nose!
Not me these days; I seem to working as much as last year, and the year before come to think of it, and I have to admit the warm gas fire and a hot meal seem to have a bearing on my decision to stay at home, put my feet up and dream of trout rising, etc., etc., etc. Not a bad idea I hear you say; time to sort out the gear, tie some flies, teach some fly tying, even write articles for the newsletter! Someone should do it!!

I called into my favorite magazine store the other day hoping to find an international magazine that would illustrate some new concepts. I have to admit to being disillusioned, magazines full of few articles and plenty of adverts! My lunch money was burning a hole in my pocket, what about the NZ magazines I thought, and not the one full of glossy pictures. Gosh, is that the ‘Troutfisher’ magazine, it’s so professional. A quick flick through the pages I thought to see if there is anything of interest. 10 minutes later and the guy in the shop is looking me up and down - hell if it’s retained my interest for this long I had better buy it. I couldn’t wait to get home and finish the article on an Englishman’s visit to the Crow River and then I started reading about small stream fishing; full of idea’s for the fly tying bench. That evening I fell asleep reading about the Kingfish on a fly and the enjoyable story of the Globug. The text is great, full of local interest and the quality of the paper is superb. It does slip out of your hands though when you are dozing off!
It certainly gets my approval anyhow for good ‘Kiwi’ articles on trout fishing. I can’t wait for the next edition to come out.
