When asked to submit my favourite "go to" fly, I instantly thought of my
Green Caddis Nymph.

This has gone through several "instars" from the original of green floss or thread body and peacock hurl thorax, to the current tying which is still simple and
easy to tie, but interesting to do.

I fish this fly as a trailing nymph behind a Bomb or weighted nymph. The importance of green caddis as a food source was highlighted recently on the Tongariro when Neil and I caught 3 trout so full of them that they were spilling out of their mouths.

Hook: 10-12 caddis or grub
Thread: Black
Weight: Lightly weight with lead.
Body: Micro, ultra caddis green chenille, 2/3 length.
Thorax: Hare/rabbit fur, well pricked out. 1/3 length.
Wing Case: Black plastic bag- tied in two humps.
