This is a great fly for fishing weedy lakes such as Otamangakau, Aniwhenua
and Rotoaira. It is generally fished on an Airflo clear intermediate sinking
line or floater.
Fished from a drifting boat depending on the speed the fly should be
stripped in short strokes just the actual boat speed.
The Deadly Damsel  By John Pellew.

  • Hook: Black Magic B10
  • Thread: 6/0 black
  • Eyes: Black or green plastic eyes
  • Tail: Olive marabou
  • Abdomen: Olive dubbing
  • Rib: Thin copper wire
  • Thorax: Peacock or Ostrich herl
  • Wing case: Pheasant tail
Tie in marabou at the tail, and then tie in the copper wire. Next are the eyes and these should leave enough room for tying off at the head. I prefer to use olive dubbing with a little shine to it such as Antron for the abdomen making it quite thin and then wind the wire forward to make a
segmented body.

Tie in some pheasant tail fibers lying back along the shank of the hook and now secure your peacock or Ostrich herl to form the thorax and head around the eyes. Over top of all this you now fold the pheasant tail over and tie off in front of the eyes.

The Deadly Damsel is complete.
