The next 'Beginners Fly Tying Course' has now been arranged for 2012 and for the first time is ‘unlimited’ on numbers due to the location; our normal club rooms in town at the Waikato Sports Clubrooms in Grantham Street on a Wednesday evening (only evening that is available)
The cost is $70 per person (excellent value) for approximately 20/25 hours of tuition, and this includes all materials, hooks, etc. (Most students tie at least 40/70 flies). To attend this course you must be a Hamilton Anglers Club member – see our website www.hac.org.nz
We will also allow for the first time ‘casual members’ to attend. In other words, if you just wish to come to1or 2 sessions, then just come along for those evenings, $8/session. A white board and kitchen facilities will be provided and all notes for the sessions can be emailed to you if required. Tea/Coffee/Biscuits are provided.
The schedule is as follows:
Session 1 ……… Wednesday 2nd May / 7.00pm ...……….....Getting started : Hackle style
Session 2 ……… Wednesday 9th May / 7.00pm ………….....Matuka style
Session 3 ……… Wednesday 16th May / 7.00pm ..………....Pukeko style.
Session 4 ……… Wednesday 23rd May / 7.00pm ………......Killer style.
Session10. …….. Wednesday 4th July / 7.00pm …..................Dry flies and Deer hair.
As per normal, it’s first in - first served, so it pays to be in quick with your fees. We have no trouble filling the spaces with enthusiastic club members (already have 5 confirmed). No tools are required (although you can bring your own), and the club will provide all materials, hooks, etc. for you to tie the flies. We have decided on this occasion to run the course weekly to maintain a better continuity throughout the programme. However, the course will be quite intense and require practice at home for you to learn all the techniques. The club has a number of very comprehensive fly tying videos and these show a lot of the above methods in great detail, as well as numerous books in the library. The best way to learn is as with most things; practice, practice and practice some more. The satisfaction in catching a trout on your own creation makes it all worthwhile.
